ROBERT D'AMATO, CSP

Mr. D'Amato attended California State University at Northridge specializing in the Occupational Safety and Health program in 1976 and 1977 following completion of his undergraduate studies. He attended Michigan State University specializing in the Industrial Safety program and obtained special certificates of completion in the field of Fleet Safety and Auto Safety.

Mr. D'Amato has maintained the professional designation of Certified Safety Professional which is similar to the designation of a "Professional Engineer".

Mr. D'Amato has also completed numerous specialized loss prevention and risk management courses through the IEA (Insurance Education Association), including the areas of Risk Management and Loss Control (Safety and Health), Fire Safety, and other related courses.

He has organized and taught numerous Occupational Safety & Health seminars for the American Society of Safety Engineers. Courses also taught include the NSC Defensive Driving Course, American Red Cross First Aid and CPR, and numerous other OSHA equivalent support training programs.

Mr. D'Amato is the principle of American Safety Institute which specializes in consulting services to various types of business and industry, and municipalities. Included are various types of businesses in the field of construction. Accounts include: Los Angeles Department of Water & Power; the County of Mono; AirTouch Cellular; Hughes; Paramount Can; Schultz Mechanical Contractors; Hood Corporation; Mobil Oil refinery; Doty Bros. Equipment Co.; and many others.

Mr. D'Amato has an extensive amount of experience in providing Risk Management and Loss Control Services to numerous school districts and municipalities.

Mr. D'Amato has an excellent knowledge of the CAL/OSHA and FED/OSHA regulations in all major areas including General Industry, Construction, and Mining and Tunneling. He also has a working knowledge of numerous EPA regulations, RCRA, SARA TITLE III, DOT, and the many others under the California Department of Health Services.

His professional affiliations include the American Society of Safety Engineers where his membership first began in 1969. He is a past President of the Valley Coastal Chapter, and a past chairman for the El Camino Real and Central Coast Sections from Ventura to San Louis Obispo. He has been active in the American Red Cross, and American Industrial Hygiene Association.

American Safety Institute is the management arm of American Safety & Risk Management Services, an independent Safety Management consulting firm established in 1989 by Robert D'Amato. The goal of the company is to provide quality safety and risk management services that meet the needs of clients.

PERSONAL HISTORY:

Mr. D'Amato has over 25 years experience in the field of safety, loss prevention and risk management. This includes having provided safety and loss prevention service for two major insurance brokerage companies, Johnson & Higgins, and Arthur J. Gallagher (Gallagher Bassett Insurance Services), and several major insurance companies including Argonaut Insurance, Fremont Indemnity Company, and Commercial Union Insurance.

EXPERTISE:

Safety experience is far reaching due to the variety of accounts and types of business handled over the years. However, safety expertise is considerable in the following areas: health care facilities; municipalities; school districts; construction firms; oil and gas recovery and refining; small businesses; manufacturing; restaurants; and warehousing.
