HAZARDOUS WASTE OPERATIONS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE
These sections cover the TSDF and remediation training requirements of the HAZWOPER regulation. All training meets the requirements of the Federal Regulations - 29 CFR 1910.120 and Title 8, CCR 5192, and Cal/OSHA Regulations. See the following for details:
40 HOUR HAZARDOUS WASTE SITE WORKER
- This 40 hour program focuses on the training required for all personnel before they can enter a hazardous waste site, Superfund site, or RCRA site. This also has been applied to clean-up operations at businesses and industries who handle(d) hazardous materials and hazardous waste. Instruction includes; planning, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, air monitoring instruments and techniques, hands-on exercises and a certificate of completion.
24 HOUR HAZARDOUS WASTE SITE WORKER
- The 24 hour program is required for persons who will be present on a site for a specific limited task (such as, but not limited to; ground water monitoring, land surveying, or geophysical surveying) and who are unlikely to be exposed to chemicals over the legal limits (PEL's). Or, persons regularly on site who work in areas which have been fully characterized and pose no health hazard (or the possibility of an emergency developing). Instruction includes; planning, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, air monitoring instruments and techniques and a certificate of completion.
24 HOUR TSDF (Treatment, Storage and Disposal)
- This training encompasses the 24 Hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker curriculum with additional information customized to the TSDF.
8 HOUR REFRESHER
- Required for all persons holding the 40 hour and 24 hour Hazardous Waste/TSDF certifications. Includes updates, required subjects, hands-on by request and certificate of completion.
8 HOUR SUPERVISOR TRAINING
- Management and supervisors who are directly responsible for, or who supervise employees engaged in hazardous waste operations are required to complete (in addition to the 24 or 40 hour training) an 8 hour supervisor training course.
16 HOUR UPGRADE TO 40 HOUR
- Persons holding a valid 24 hour certificate in hazardous waste may take this course to upgrade to a 40 hour certificate. Instruction is primarily hands-on.
16 HOUR TRANSPORTATION OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
- (Ref. 49 CFR 126 and 181)
This course is for drivers, dispatchers, supervisors and union representatives or anyone who prepares or is responsible for manifests and placarding. Topics include:
- Placarding
- Safety operations for vehicles
- Regulations
- Legal Liability
- Characteristics of Hazardous materials
- Documentation of Hazardous materials
- Reporting accidents and general safety
